World War 1 through World War 2

Operation Fustian was an airborne forces operation undertaken during the Allied invasion of Sicily in July 1943 in the Second World War. The operation was carried out by Brigadier Gerald Lathbury’s 1st Parachute Brigade, part of the British 1st Airborne Division. Their objective was the Primosole Bridge across the Simeto River. The intention was for the brigade, with glider-borne forces in support, to land on both sides of the river. They would then capture the bridge and secure the surrounding area until relieved by the advance of British XIII Corps, which had landed on the south eastern coast three days previously. Because the bridge was the only crossing on the river and would give the British 8th Army access to the Catania plain, its capture was expected to speed the advance and lead to the defeat of the Axis forces in Sicily.

German Zepplin Straken R.VI on a bomber run.

Although initially confused by the American Airborne operations in the early morning your force is now organized and heading to attack Sainte MereEglise. Scouts report that Neuville-au-Plain was seized by what appear to be American paratroopers only a few hours ago. As the leading element, you are tasked with securing the commune quickly so that our forces can push on quickly to Sainte MereEglise. You have been assigned a good deal of support to help spearhead your attack and crush any resistance.

US Paratroopers vs German SS… meeting engagement

The first Zeppelin mass–produced version to fly over the battle field was the impressive Zeppelin–Staaken R.VI, with a wingspan rivaling that of a WW2 Superfortress. Flying at night with a deadly bomb load up to 4400 pounds, R.VIs were used in bombing raids, bringing destruction and terror to London until the late spring of 1918.

Scenario This battle occurs just South of St-Come-du-Mont at a prominent intersection on the road across the Douve River and on towards Carentan. The hedges in the area vary in thickness and are medium obstacles. Two metaled roads, shown in grey, meet at a crossroads where a house sits with a low stone walled courtyard. Across the street is another house with a low stone wall that runs through a field. Both walls count as minor obstacles. In a field Southeast of the first house is an orchard. Two dirt roads, marked in tan, also connect to the main road here. All buildings and stone walls count as hard cover. The hedges as light cover. The roads and fields count as open ground. The orchard counts as light cover if stationary, open ground if moving.

Setup the 4x6 oversized map and the Eastern Front armies. There is also the Western and Eurofront.

Eastfront II is a update to the classic EastFront. It details the conflict between Germany and the Soviet Union during WWII. Players have to contend with production, supply, command control and weather to try and break the other side's lines. Individual, linkable 6-month scenarios cover the war from June 1941 through May 1945.

The Black Swan scenario where the Americans get to enter the game..

"Black Swan" is a block wargame with over 200 combat units. A game turn is three months (a season) and there are several three-season Scenarios and two Campaigns (1939 and 1941). The game was played with Jim as the Axis Powers with Lee and Richard as the Allies.

Saturday morning led off with a large WWII game using Battleground WWII rules. Reinforced American and British platoons, supported by almost a dozen AFVs were charged with pushing through an urban area of governmental buildings to seize a V-1 site. Richard Wheet built an outstanding V-1 diorama, which you can see below. With 10 players, most new to the rules, the game was not as fast as I’d hoped, but the inclusion of one gamer experienced in WGWWII, Brian Cottrell, saved our bacon.

LGOP in its purest form, small groups of pissed-off 19 year old American paratroopers. They are well trained. They are armed to the teeth and lack serious adult supervision. Happily they go about the day's work...and wonder into Hiesville early one morning disturbing a group of Germans just waking up for breakfast…can they take the village.... and meet the German counterattack late in the afternoon, can they keep the village? 54 MM King and Country Miniatures - Rules: Final Combat
